ECS deliver utilities to historic Grade II Listed former Brintons Carpet site
How this major redevelopment benefitted from ECS Utilities delivery
This historic building, the former Brinton’s Carpet headquarters situated in central Kidderminster, dates back to 1876 and had been empty for over two years. Max’s Exchange Street project saw the building undergo partial demolition to create multiple, modern, leisure units suitable for use as restaurants, cafes, or shops, with gym, cinema, hotel or offices on the first floor. ECS worked with Max to plan, manage and deliver the utilities requirements, including power, gas, water and telecoms.
Riverside Walk Development – The Project
“Our project proposed the conversion of the 19th century Brinton’s carpet headquarters building in Kidderminster town centre. Due to the previous, longstanding function of the building – the supplies were archaic and only designed for a single user.
We met with ECS early on in the planning stages of the development. Once the project was signed off, ECS were engaged to handle the project’s utilities, this meant identifying the existing utility supplies (including electricity, water, gas & telecoms) and providing support to secure new connections for the Riverside development.
ECS conducted a site survey and utility audit as well as extensive industry research to establish the necessary utility infrastructure. They confirmed what was present on site, calculated what extra capacity would be required by future tenants, and established the locally available capacity. ECS produced a plan of all additional infrastructure that would be required as well as associated work to convert the vintage building’s facilities to a 21st Century multi-tenant leisure development.
ECS took full responsibility for co-ordinating the works in line with our construction timescales.
During the course of the project, a few obstacles came up that ECS helped to tackle and solve, such as gaining access via third party landowners.
Throughout the project, we had to keep in line with Grade II listed status and requirements that this puts on any such developments to maintain the character and exterior appearance of the building.
Utilities can create a major headache in projects such as these, but I found that using ECS to manage delivery of the whole utilities piece, enabled me to focus on other parts of the building’s re-development, knowing that the utilities were in safe hands.
I would recommend ECS as utility delivery partners, and wouldn’t hesitate to engage them on future projects.”
